What is the L-Parameter?

L (Pledge Leverage) is a proposed new Cardano protocol parameter. It defines the maximum ratio between a pool's delegated stake and its pledge.

When a pool exceeds the limit L × Pledge, any stake beyond that threshold is considered oversaturated and does not contribute additional rewards. This creates an incentive for pool operators to commit more ADA as pledge.

Effective Stake = min(Live Stake, L × Pledge, Saturation Cap)

Example: With L=1000 and a pledge of 10,000 ₳, a pool can support up to 10,000,000 ₳ (10M) in stake before becoming oversaturated. The global saturation cap (k-parameter) is currently ~71.7M ₳.
